Aunty Yvonne Kent

Aunty Yvonne Kent was an iconic indigenous elder and leader for the cohesion and collaboration between the local first nation people, the Gomaroi people, and the broader community. She engaged enthusiastically in the first 10X Tamworth community-based leadership development program in 2016 and became a founding member of Regional Unlimited, being appointed to the board in 2019.

Sadly, Aunty passed during the first wave of COVID. The RU Board made a commitment to host multiple community events to complete a portrait of Aunty and include the community in the process.

This project is more then a commemoration of Aunty. It is a leadership development program designed to spotlight and foster leadership in our community. The Aunty Yvonne Kent Commemorative Portrait Leadership Development Program will run from March to December 2023.

Project Purpose

  1. To spotlight Aunty's example of an inclusive, relationship based model of leadership by hosting a TED type speaking event, with the theme "Community-based Leadership Development; Why and How".
  2. To honour and commemorate Aunty's contribution to the community, by joining together in painting her portrait.
  3. To further her work and expand networking, growing the leadership capacity, by bringing together people accross the community to organise the painting and speaking event.
